"Murph"

In memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005. This workout was one of Mike's favorites and he'd named it 'Body Armor.' From here on it will be referred to as 'Murph' in honor of the focused warrior and great American who wanted nothing more in life than to serve this great country and the beautiful people who make it what it is.

For time.

1 mile Run
100 Pull-ups
200 Push-ups
300 Squats
1 mile Run

Partition the pull-ups, push-ups, and squats as needed. Start and finish with a mile run. If you've got a twenty pound vest or body armor, wear it.

Subbed sit-ups for the push-ups with Neal's blessing. Tried to compensate for that less-challenging sub by doing overhaed squats with a bar instead of regular squats. Otherwise, not a spectacular effort on my part. Two things greatly inspired me...one was the thought of "Murph" himself and his sense of devotion; the other was Marcia, who kept chugging along, despite a five-mile run from her home to CrossFit-Boston just prior to the workout, and completing a half-marathon yesterday. Marcia, you rock!

Well said, Thor. Just when I thought I had reason to feel sorry for myself there are hundreds and thousands of others doing so much more, and not just for themselves.

But....my favorite part of Murph was facing the wall of shame while doing squats. Second favorite part was watching all these tall, skinny people fly by me. And third? Seeing Neal downright giddy on a Monday morn. Mmmmm, ain't it good to be back!

time: 55. something with modified pull-ups and push-ups.

Ditto on the above comments; you guys make Monday workouts so much better. Special props go out to Nancy, whose loud encouragement pulled me through the last run. Time was 52 something with modified pushups and pullups.

Ditto; forgot to set the alarm clock, rolled out of bed late, got to the gym late, fingers crossed to find an 'easy' workout and look what happened.
Oy.
Kudos to Karen for her stalwart and cheerful return to painandsufferingincorporated.
Kudos to EC too, for her stellar performance today.
And yes, Neal does seem awfully cheerful these days, though his elevated spirits do nothing to diminish his enthusiasm for inflicting pain on his acolytes.

I heard Marcia turned in a sub-40 minute Murph the day after a half-marathon. Way to go!
